At last! My favourite hat…the one that appears in all those photos Luisa keeps uploading to instagram! The one I wear EVERY day, as I water the garden and carry out my daily chores. It may not be the one I wear for serious gardening jobs (like making compost which is a very grubby job indeed), but this is my absolute favourite daily garden hat (and it came to the beach with me this year too!).

Made especially for me in Sydney by my clever and delightful friends at Axel Mano, we played with a classic shape, then ‘wired’ the brim so that I could shape it to suit my idea of a slightly ‘battered old friend’ kind of hat!
Made of beautiful Milanese straw with an antique finish, I hope the end of the roll of striped grosgrain ribbon that completes the inner hatband never comes to an end! (My fascination with ribbon is inclined to equal that of plants!). And yes….I’ll take these to the Collectors’ Plant Fair too!
