Autumn olives...

Hello everyone,

What a sense of excitement there is in the air....with Easter only a few weeks away, the first leaves are beginning to colour and, as you can see, the olives are just making their slow progression from green to black, which means I must start the picking process!

Here at Glenmore it's all systems go, planning our OPEN GARDEN WEEKEND on 2 & 3 MAY.  You can now discover all the details on the web page, though I still have another couple of surprises up my sleeve.  We very, very much hope you will plan to come & see us during the course of that weekend.

Open Garden aside, we had a fabulous Kitchen Gardening Day last week, with a full house of delightful participants for a huge day of learning (and eating!), and I'd like to draw your attention to the next one: WINTER KITCHEN GARDENING on SATURDAY 9 MAY.  While the emphasis will be on getting your veg through the chilly season ahead, as well as lovely topics like perennial veg, citrus & even sowing seed for summer (??!! I hear you say), the great afternoon component will be all about COMPOST.  It's one of our most popular days, and during the afternoon, you may choose either to stand on the sidelines and watch, or to get your hands dirty....we don't mind either way, as long as you learn how simple and straightforward compost-making really is.  And it's absolutely vital that you learn, because the only way to good fruit and veg is through healthy soil, and the way to healthy soil is compost (therefore.....the way to your own good health is in making good soil).  By the way, 2015 has been declared the International Year of Soils....did you know?  You will find some good information here, if you'd like to discover more.

I've also uploaded booking forms for CHARLOTTE THODEY at GLENMORE on FRIDAY 5 JUNE, STEFANO MANFREDI at GLENMORE on SUNDAY 31 MAY, and SHONA WILSON at GLENMORE on SATURDAY 22 AUGUST. I'll be sending separate newsletters for each of these exciting events in the coming weeks, but you'll find details for all on the Calendar & Bookings page. Details of our wonderful WINTER CONCERT on SUNDAY 28 JUNE will also be heading your way very soon.

Recent blog posts can be viewed here, and the booking form for WINTER KITCHEN GARDENING here.  Richard Unsworth has invited me to have a small stall at the official launch of his huge new Garden Life store at 158 Princes Highway, St. Peter's this coming Saturday (I'd love to see you there); then the next big thrill on the calendar will be THE COLLECTORS' PLANT FAIR on 11 & 12 APRIL at Clarendon. We will have a stall there once again (I'll send more news soon) but do make a note in your diary so as not to miss out, which would be disappointing for anyone who loves plants. And one more little something you may like to add to your diary is the Mt. Wilson Autumn Festival on Saturday 18 April.  I took myself along to the inaugural event last year, and thoroughly enjoyed the sense of convivial, community festivity and opportunity to see a garden or two.  Here's my blogpost from the day!

Gosh....I feel all in a whirl!  If you have any questions, of course don't hesitate to contact me.  I'll very much look forward to seeing you here at Glenmore or out & about very soon.

Very best wishes

ps Some of you have been requesting a date for a Seasonal Cooking Day, so I've set aside Friday 9 October for COOKING WITH SPRING PRODUCE.  I'm sorry there isn't an autumn date...the calendar conspired against me....with Easter, Anzac Day, the Collectors' Plant Fair AND our Open Garden all so close together. Next year, I promise!
