You may recall last year, in the midst of all the excitement surrounding the book launch and Spring Garden Fair, that I got a bit over-excited when the kernel of this idea lodged in my mind's eye....but I just couldn't get the details together in time to present it as hoped, at the time.
And so, I am simply thrilled at last, to invite you to a day of AUTUMN QUICHES, TARTS & FLANS with BARBARA SWEENEY at GLENMORE HOUSE on FRIDAY 5 MAY!
I've been salivating over this for months now - can't you tell?!! You see, I'm a bit of a dud at making pastry (the way I used to be with compost) but reckon there's nothing like a quiche, tart or flan for a weekend lunch, accompanied by a perky leaf salad from the garden. I'm sure I'm not the only one and I would so like to make my own!
For those who don't know her, Barbara Sweeney is the convenor of Sydney's fabulous and highly respected annual event 'Food and Words', as well as often being seen around the traps as 'The Talking Cookbook'. That's when she's not interviewing chefs, cooks or writing for Country Style. She simply revels in food words as much as food origin...the back stories of growers through to the inspiration that drives cooks and the background of ingredients. She likes to get to the nub of things - whether a good story, or the elements of good pastry. So on the day, Barbara will explain (and demonstrate) what should be an enjoyable process in her calm, thorough and methodical way. Er....surely it goes without saying that she's a really good cook???!!!!
It will be a day of delicious food; of flour and eggs, butter and cream and the best of the season's produce; as well as recipes, books, and plenty of words.....and collecting all manner of delights from the garden of course.
We both very much hope you will join us so that you can cook your way through the rest of autumn and winter with a flourish! I can't wait! If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to get in touch. You can discover all the details of the day, as well as the booking form here.
Very best wishes as always,
