Event name: Willow Cloche & Hurdle Workshop with Penny Simons

Willow Cloche and Hurdle Workshop - Learn the technique with Designer, Maker, Gardener, Penny Simons, Friday 21 August

About Penny Simons: www.ruralartisanliving.com

Penny Simons is a Designer/Maker/Gardener living and working in the Southern Highlands of NSW. With a BA hons. in Constructed Textiles, majoring in Weaving at the Winchester School of Art in England, Penny was one of the founding partners of  Sydney based, textile company 'Cloth'. The intervening years and arrival of children have seen her work in the fields of biodynamics, landscape design, craft and sustainable horticulture, where she picked up new raw materials with which to weave on an altogether different scale. Working now with the seasons and material from her local environment to create sustainable art and craft work, she much enjoys sharing and teaching her skills at workshops which reconnect participants with the earth via the materials she provides.

Workshop description:

Participants will learn how to make a willow cloche and woven hurdle of garden edge, using material foraged, harvested and prepared by Penny. These structures are useful as well as decorative in the garden...a cloche can be used for protection or to train a plant to shape, while the hurdle can be used to divide or edge a bed....(or even to hang on your wall!).

Just like the 'structures' workshops that have taken place previously, please note this workshop will be for those at an intermediate level (though as with the structures workshop, most participants had no previous experience). It is for those who are dexterous.....and have strong hands.

The day will begin at 9.30am with morning tea, followed by an invigorating morning of creating either your cloche or hurdle under Penny's guiding hand. Penny is an excellent teacher, with a bounty of information to share about working with the material and techniques she employs.  Mickey will provide a garden-inspired, lunch, after which you will swap from cloche to hurdle making or vice versa during the afternoon session.

A thought:  begin with an empty car so you can easily fit your beautiful cloche and panel inside to take home!

More on Mickey's Willow Structure obsession!

Cost $440.00 per person

*PLEASE NOTE COVID SAFE RULES WILL APPLY ON THE DAY AND WE ASK YOU TO NOT ATTEND IF YOU FEEL ILL...(and should that be the unfortunate case, ask you to please advise your situation as soon as possible so we can attempt to fill your space...but let's hope this isn't the case for anyone).
