Living Willow Workshop - Learn the technique with Designer, Maker, Gardener, Penny Simons, Saturday 28 May
About Penny Simons: www.ruralartisanliving.com
Penny Simons is a Designer/Maker/Gardener living and working in the Southern Highlands of NSW. With a BA hons. in Constructed Textiles, majoring in Weaving at the Winchester School of Art in England, Penny was one of the founding partners of Sydney based, textile company 'Cloth'. The intervening years and arrival of children have seen her work in the fields of biodynamics, landscape design, craft and sustainable horticulture, where she picked up new raw materials with which to weave on an altogether different scale. Working now with the seasons and material from her local environment to create sustainable art and craft work, she much enjoys sharing and teaching her skills at workshops which reconnect participants with the earth via the materials she provides.
Workshop description:
Participants will learn how to build a living willow structure, using material foraged, harvested and prepared by Penny. The day will begin at 9.30am with morning tea before an informative, illustrated talk in the Dairy. An invigorating morning of phase one construction then lies ahead, before Mickey provides a warming, garden-inspired, long-table winter lunch. The afternoon session will see the second stage of construction through to completion of the design. The day will end at 4pm.
More on Mickey's Willow Structure obsession!
