The lazy thud of a hoof on the ground, the swish of a chestnut tail in the afternoon sun, the chatty reminder that food would be nice….these are just a few of the familiar constants, that will sadly no longer accompany my days in the garden.  We’ve seen it coming for a long time now…..it’s many years since the sound of galloping hooves accompanied the rather splendid vision of Elvis, mane & tail in full flight, coming home for the day.

Elvie has long enjoyed a slow life, roaming;  marking the time of day, watching me in the garden or bringing in the washing – signalling time for his evening feed, or waiting patiently with a friendly call at the gate first thing in the morning.  I’ll miss him being there.  It’s been a sad day….
